January was a really fun month for fishing on Lake Fork. We didn't catch any monsters but had a lot of good tournament size fish and a few slot fish around 4 to 6 pounds.
Water temps where I have been fishing are anywhere between 54-61 depending on the weather and we are catching fish from 1-15 feet of water. A lot of these fish are setting up like they would just before the spawn and are cruising up shallow.
The north end of the lake seems to warm up faster than mid-lake. If I was coming to Lake Fork anytime soon, I would be looking for the warmest water on the north ends. That's what I do.
We fished several baits this month but the two best were a 3/8 white chatterbait with a white skinny dipper for the tail. The other bait was a weightless fluke in green pumpkin on a number 3 rigging hook. On both baits I am using 15 pound fluorocarbon on a 6'8 med/hvy McCain Fishing rod. For the deeper fish we are throwing Carolina & Alabama rigs
I hope this will help y'all out and I will start posting more reports soon. If any of y'all are out on Fork and you have questions or something was to happen to your boat, please feel free to give me a call. I am always around the lake. If y'all are looking to hire a guide, I would love to earn your business. Here are a few pictures from the month.
This time of year I am often on the water guiding clients or fishing tournaments and the best way to reach me is to text or call my cell. (972 757 7947)
