Lake Fork Anglers Results From January 14

Hard to believe what a northern cold front can do shutting down the winter bite that wasn't really bad to begin with. It started out at 49 degrees this morning and instead of getting warmer it got colder. The winds started 5-10 out of the sw and turned around to about 20-30 out of the north. A tough ride back with a spun prop.

All fish 10" and up are keepers. Only the best 5 count.

Boaters

  1. First Place went to Galen Smith of Alba  with 2 bass for 5.50 LB. with the 3.90 LB boater lunker.
  2. Second Place went to Tim Gold of Mineola with 1 bass for 3.64 LB.
  3. Third Place went to Randy Bunch of Lake Fork 1 bass for 2.36 LB. l
  4. Fourth Place went to Don Overstreet of Sulphur Springs  with 2 bass for 1.80 LB
  5. Fifth Place went to Charlie Abresch of Hawkins with 1 bass for 1.04 LB

Co-Anglers

  1. First Place went to John Berech of Garland with 1 bass for 5.80 which is the co-angler lunker .
  2. Second Place went to Gary Gilmore of Ennis  with 2 bass for 3.22 LB with a 2.18 LB lunker..
  3. Third Place went to Ken Kielbas of Arlington with 2 bass for 2.90 LB. with the lunker of 1.20 LB.
  4. Fourth Place went to Jackie Price of Alba with 1 bass for 1.12 LB.

We caught 14 keepers today with 12 anglers skunking. Boy does that suck. That is the worse results since when we started and only had 4 boats fishing.

The LFA fishes every Thursday except Thanksgiving and Christmas on 2 different formats.

Right now we are looking for more co-anglers. Bring your face mask, tackle and life vest and get to go out on Lake Fork for far less than you'd pay for a guide.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Mar. 26)

GOOD. Water Stained; 62 degrees; 0.32 feet below pool. Water temperature is 58-66 degrees. Bass are pulling up shallow. There is a good late evening bite with Texas rigs, chatterbaits, flukes, wacky rig senkos in 1-3 feet. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Smaller male black bass are moving to the shallows on warm windy banks. Fish the banks with the most sunlight. Bait fish and worm patterns are a good choice. Look for females close-by ready to move to nests. Slow presentations work best. The crappie should be moving shallowly in 60-65-degree water. Wooly buggers can be a good choice. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Lake Fork crappie fishing has been steady with numbers of big fish possible when the winds allow. Good numbers of crappie on timber in 6-20 feet close to spawning areas. Cold fronts lately have been pushing the fish back out deeper and we may only see one or two days of shallow fish in between fronts. If you find a spawning area with 62-64 degree surface temperatures you may be able to find fish in 2-4 feet. Some fish are holding on bridges, but the bite can change not only by the day but by the hour this time of year. Wind directions and wind speeds are dictating a lot of the crappie’s location and demeanor. The bite is good most days if you can get a bait right on a fish. Minnows, hand tied jigs and soft plastics will all produce this time of year. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
