The Lake Fork Anglers are back!

The Lake Fork Anglers are back! After a 2 month hiatus due to Covid 19 we are back to fishing but with restrictions. 90% of our members are 60 or older with some in their 80's so taking precautions is very important.

We have set it up so only the co-angler registers, wearing masks, in the morning paying both entry fees and picking up their score sheets. The setup for fishing is a five fish limit tournament boaters fish against boaters and co-anglers fish against co-anglers. So the co-angler then meets the boater either at the ramp or at a pre-determined location. And the end of the tournament the co-angler brings the score sheet back and presents it to the scoring person. IN this case president Galen Smith.

Once the winners are declared their prizes are put into a envelope and given to their co-angler for the following Thursday when they come in to register.

So because there is no revealing of what the fish were caught on I can only tell you what I "heard". Which is not much. Crankbaits, Texas rigged worms and drop shots.

All of my bass for the last three weeks have come on one crankbait also including 3 catfish, 3 sand bass and a turtle, except for a 6+ caught on a drop shot. LOL

All fish 10" and up count as well as slot fish. Only their best 5 count.

Boaters

First Place went to Curt Blount of Lake Fork with 7 bass for 18.28 LB. with a 5.08 lunker caught on a drop shot.

Second Place went to Jack White of Farmers Branch with 8 bass for 15.84 LB. with a 6.64 LB lunker.

Third Place went to Dennis Bubinas of Lake Fork with 5 bass for 15.20 LB with the boaters lunker of 7.95 LB.

Fourth Place went to Tim Gold of Mineola with 9 bass for 14.66 LB> with a 4.31 LB. lunker

Fifth Place went to Bill Ailes of Sulphur Springs with 8 bass for 14.24 LB. with a 4.87 LB. lunker.

Co-Anglers

First Place went to guest Jimmy Bright of ?? with 6 bass for 14.35 LB. with the co-angler lunker of 5.08 LB.

Second Place went to Doug Haeussler of Royce City with 8 bass for 10.63 LB. with a 4.49 LB. lunker.

Third Place went to Gary Gilmore of Ennis with 7 bass for 10.50 LB. with a 2.88 lunker.

Fourth Place went to Butch Grove of Sulphur Springs with 10 bass for 10.25 LB. with a 3.95 LB. lunker.

Fifth Place went to Jackie Price of Alba with 3 bass for 7.19 LB. with a 3.02 LB. lunker.

So even thought the complaints of "tough fishing" are still circulating the guys managed to catch 135 keepers. There were three skunks, all co-anglers.

The LFA fishes every Thursday except T-Day and Christmas on 2 different formats. A 5 fish limit we call LFA and a MLF style format where every fish counts we call Hard Core, 3 special tournaments and an end of year dinner. We are a club of 50+ seniors (Mostly) and are very liberal on members being for off vacations and medical issues.

Lake Fork

Fishing Report from TPWD (Oct. 2)

GOOD. Water Stained; 81 degrees; 1.74 feet below pool. The lake is turning over on the upper east and west arms. Early morning bite is good on topwaters and flukes, and yum dingers around grass. Carolina rigs and Texas rigs are good on points and humps in 7-12 feet. Deep crankbaits are fair over brush piles and roadbeds. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Bass are aggressive on top water and shallow. Windy banks can provide schooling action so be ready with a small top water or streamer. Catfish are shallow around boat houses. Bream are excellent in the shallows, wooly buggers and small poppers should bring a strike. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. The Lake Fork crappie fishing continues to be excellent as we head into fall. You can find fish in a very large range of depths from 12-40 feet. Timber still has some great white crappie if you cover water and pick off those fish. Brush piles are holding decent numbers with a combination of white and black crappie. You can find black crappie on underwater road beds and bridges. We should see more and more black crappie on the tops of timber in deeper water over the next month. Minnows are a great bait but we did catch fish on small hand tied jigs this week. Soft plastics will work and that bite will get better as water cools off. The catfish bite is on fire in 18-28 feet around timber along creek channels. These fish are following bait migrations and will load up under your boat as you begin to fish. They will even elevate off the bottom as they load up so you can fish up and down the water column to find the larger fish. Use any prepared bait of choice to catch this fish. Using some cattle cubes or sour grain will attract and hold even more fish. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
