Major record broken...see below

Hard Core (Major league Fishing format) is pretty cool getting to count every fish you catch.

So for us to do Major League Fishing we need two in the boat. We already have that setup with boaters and co-anglers. So next we set it up so the boaters are fishing against the boaters and the co-anglers are fishing against the co-anglers. Both are checking the others fish length before releasing and recording them.

Well we thought 25 bass for 22 something was pretty darn good. This months results are outstanding. Chuck Roy fishing as a co-angler with Randy Steel blew the doors off the competition. But first The boater Randy Steele. Major league fishing allows you to count everything over 10". While they had outstanding results all the could talk about were all of the really big fish that got away.

Most of the fish were caught on square bill crank baits and yellow magics.

Randy Steele caught 22 fish for 23.01 with the boater lunker of 6.03.

Second place went to Bob Roberts with 6 bass for 13.3 and a 5.57 lunker.
Third place boater is Steve Chick with 11 bass for 7.51.

First place Co-angler went to Chuck with 24 bass for 44.81 and the 5.04 co-angler lunker..
Second place Co-angler went to Jerry Krone with 5 bass for 10.46.
Third place co-angler went to Stijn Lens with 3 bass for 7.73 with a 4.54 lunker.

The one more member who qualified for the semi-finals is none other than our guest from Belgium, bringing the total to 13. We still have 2 tournaments left to qualify outright for the November round 2.

The picture accompanying this article is of "The Boy From Belgium" Before he came to America is personal best was a 4 1/2 and his Dad's is a 6 1/2. His goal is to become a professional bass angler and members of the Texas Fishing Forum are hosting him for a month.

On Aug 8 he went out with Galen Smith and Bruce Allen and his first fish was a 6 which settled that score pretty darn fast. His next bass on that trip was a 7.90 which just started a whole new chapter for him.

Then he pre-fished with Bruce and caught a nice fish. But in the tournament on 8/11 he caught an even bigger one. Way to go Stijn. And Happy Birthday too.

For info in fishing this tournament and others put on by the Lake Fork Anglers contact me at [email protected] or PM me on here. We have openings for both boaters and co-anglers right now. This is a club that fishes only on Thursday daytime. We do not hold open tournaments. But dues is $5 a year.

In addition to this format that we call "Hard Core" we also fish our regular every other Thursday tournament all at Lake Fork on a draw style fishing. All of our tournament "paper" the bass and slot fish count.

If you are as "Hard Core" as some of us you can fish every Thursday like we do. And some Fridays too. And then Opens on the weekend.

Hey we are seniors and we are supposed to be doing something to keep

Lake Fork

Fishing Report from TPWD (Dec. 31)

GOOD. Water Stained; 54 degrees; 1.78 feet below pool. The lake level is on the rise after the recent rains, but the bite has slowed. Squarebill crankbaits and chatterbaits are fair in 3-5 feet. Suspended jerkbaits around timber in 5-7 feet are fair. Carolina rigs on points and humps or road beds in 12-18 feet are good. Texas rigs and Viper XP jigs on big wood slow in 5-7 feet. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Cooler water so the bass will be deeper. Black bass are slow in 5-10 feet. Some smaller bass are chasing shad on warm days. Black Clousers with sinking tip lines are a good bet. Focus on creek bends and drop-offs. small streamers and top water patterns might catch active bass in creeks on warm days. Report by Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork. The Lake Fork crappie fishing continues to be excellent as the surface temperatures continue to drop. Lots of fish can be found on timber, brush and bridges in 18-58 feet. If you find areas with tons of shad there will be crappie close by. Look for fish migrating towards deeper water that sometimes follow creek channels. The jig bite has kicked in for the winter. Small hand tied jigs are producing extremely well and soft plastics will get you a bite. Minnows are always a go to bait for crappie on Lake Fork. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
