Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 16)

GOOD. Water Stained; 63 degrees; 0.20 feet below pool. Bass and shad are spawning. Shallow water seems to be best for bass in 1-4 feet using chatterbaits, flukes and Yum Dingers. Texas rigs are catching bass at the edge of grass with creature baits and beavers 1-3 feet. Topwaters are fair early in the day in weed patches. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Black bass are shallow, fish warm windy banks. Top water bite is on! Small bait fish patterns are working well. The crappie are moving shallow, small clouser minnows are producing well. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising in 2-4 feet of water biting clouser minnows. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. The crappie fishing on Lake Fork has been a bit tougher this spring. Fish have been hard to find shallow moving in and out a lot due to the cold fronts. This week fish have finally begun to load up on bridges, brush piles and lay downs for the post spawn pattern. We should see more and more of those fish load up over the next few weeks. You can still find some fish on timber in 10-20 feet as well. Minnows will work on fish but we are seeing some fish that just do not want to bite. Swimming small hand tied jigs or small soft plastics can fool some of those picky fish. Numbers of fish have not been great but fishing is improving. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
